MIKE NELSON - GOCORPS UPDATE

10/15/2020

GoCorps is in an exciting season with the start of a new school year! We have started to attend virtual career fairs across the country. Two weeks ago I "attended" a career fair in Western Pennsylvania on Wednesday and then "attended" a career fair in Southern California! Both events were a great opportunity to share more about GoCorps with students. (Although I would have preferred to be in Southern California for the career fair!) Keep Reading.

Emanuel Mexico Mission - DeBolts & José Gonzalez

10/14/2020

FROM DAVE & SHERI DEBOLT:

Greetings once again from your missionary friends in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.  Hope this finds you all well.  Like most churches, missions and other religious organizations, we have had to adapt to the new culture we live in today.  We need to wear face masks, use antibacterial gel and take temperatures to all who enter into the doors of Emanuel Mexico Mission.

How we reach others while serving meals or preparing food has also required some extra steps in making sure everyone we come in contact with is secure that Emanuel Mexico Mission is a safe place to enter and worship.

During the month of September, we remodeled the kitchen area of the Ontañon Church of Christ.  Before we served all church meals from an island placed on the open patio.  We eliminated that area and converted the old office area for the church into a kitchen.  All meals once served from within this new room that opens up to the large patio which is now the church sanctuary.  May sound a bit confusing, but it works.  You can see photos of the new area on the Emanuel Mexico Mission facebook page.

Your support makes sure we are ministry to and serving the best we can.

Thank you for your love, prayers and support.

David and Sheri DeBolt
FROM JOSÉ GONZALEZ:

Hello family at Valley.  I am your friend, Jose, and it is a pleasure to greet you all.  I want to let you know of the work of the Lord our God here in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.  We are returning little by little to our normal studies.  We have concluded a series of sermons on disciples, titled "True Servants of Jesus Christ".  We studied from the first letter of Paul to Timothy 4:6-16.  It was a series of sermons with 6 sessions.  It was a blessing and now we are begining the theme of "The True Servant of Jesus Christ is Before They Do".

Now we have begun another series of sermons titled "Knowing God", thinking on Hebrews 11:6.  The author of this book tells us "that everything that is close to God, has to believe that He exists".  And to believe, we have to know God, without forgetting that our faith is really important for this study.

I encourage you to continue to pray for your mission here in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.  We continue to knock on the doors of the hearts of the persons who live in our community.  It is complicated because of the strong Catholic traditions, but we have faith in God that all things are possible.

For now, our activities of evangelism are limited because of the pandemic that has affected the world, but we continue ahead taking advantage of the opportunities that come up.

At my last visit to Valley, it got me inspired to improve our church kitchen area here at Emanuel Mexico Mission.  In September, we knocked a hole in the old church office and created a small kitchen for the church with a serving window and counter top.  We are here to serve and make disciples and now we have a beautiful area and to serve church dinners and other church programs.  Thanks, Valley family, for your dedication and love for others.

Sending you a big.  What ever doubts or questions you may have, please let me know.  God bless you all at Valley.

Your friend and missionary,
Jose

MOUNTAINS AND VALLEYS

The month of September 2020, had its Mountain top experiences.  With the opening of the church once again, we saw new faces arrive throughout the month.  Attendance increase!

The school lunches provide more than a simple meal to the neighborhood children, but a message that God loves them and cares for them.

We were honored to be the Mission of the Month for the Bluffton First Church of Christ, Bluffton, Indiana.  Their special offering will help us replace that old worn out refrigerator, finish the remodeling in the main kitchen, repair the church baptistery and more.

We celebrated September, by beginning 30 years of service to the inner city of San Luis Potosi and that is where the Valley work is accomplished...in the inner city.  If we constantly live on the Mountain top experiences of our lives, we cannot see the true work that needs to be done.

A good friend wrote me a few months ago and said, "You know, as I read your updates, it seems to me that Emanuel Mexico Mission is doing even more gospel centered/spreading work than (before).  Stay strong and keep lifting up Jesus...while I pray that He will lift you up."

It's true, we literally work in the Valley of the inner city.  Drugs, gangs, shootings, murder and crime surround us.  The police constantly patrol the neighborhood.  But that does not stop the need to evangelize the lost and needy.  Jose is working hard to reach these people with the gospel.

Coming soon will be a series of 5 minute daily devotions via the internet.  Some will be in English and all will be translated into English.  Yes, the pandemic has affected the way we serve others, but like many, these new challenges put us in the Valley where the real work needs to be done.

Thank you for allowing us to have Mountain top experiences.  Thank you for helping us to do the Kingdom work that needs to be done in the Valley.

God bless,

David and Sheri DeBolt
Jose Manuel Gonzalez
