"With constant streams of bills, my husband and I have found it difficult and frivolous to spend money on outings for the five of us. Even going to a movie would be more than we would want to spend. We also are concerned with germs and crowds. Most [HopeKids] events have sanitary precautions in place to keep all of our kiddos safe. It is so nice to meet other families who, although do not share the same medical condition, share a common understanding and certainly respect." -Melinda, Hanna’s mom
For families who have a child with a life-threatening medical condition, simply leaving the house can be a challange for a number of reasons. Aside from financial concerns, immunocompromised children have to take extra precautions to ensure they avoid illnesses which can delay vital treatments or worsen their condition. Many HopeKids events are private to provide a safer environment for families, like Hanna's. Your support alleviates some of the challenges that these families face. HopeKids' ongoing calendar of events wouldn't be possible without the support of committed donors, volunteers and event partners. Thank you for providing hope for the future to families who have a child with a life-threatening medical condition! With Hope, Brian Anderson, Executive Director HopeKids Minnesota ![]() Dear Friends of HopeKids, In 2018, your support provided 504 events to 1,409 families - many days, multiple events were taking place! More importantly, you provided a safe community for families to meet others who understand the toll that medical bills and hospital visits can have on families who have a child with a life-threatening medical condition. A two-hour event can have a lasting impact when you meet new friends who become family. "I can’t explain the feeling we had being surrounded by parents who 'get it.' It was wonderful being somewhere we don’t feel out of place. Each and every person understood Sawyer and what it’s like to live in our shoes. It’s wonderful to be able to exhange information and ideas with families, as well. We had a wonderful time and feel so blessed to have found HopeKids to help us feel included in an oftentimes excluded life." - Francie, Sawyer’s mom Your generous support creates a safe and suppportive community that brings hope to the hearts of families, just like Sawyer's. Special thanks to Tradition Companies and its trade partners who always go the distance to provide hope to Minnesota families. This is the 10th year this event has been sponsored by Tradition and held at the beautiful Spirit of Brandtjen Farm in Lakeville. Through their support and the amazing support of families, friends and neighbors, HopeKids surpassed its goal of $70,000! With Hope, Brian Anderson, Executive Director HopeKids Minnesota ![]() Dear Friends of HopeKids, Recently, we united strong men and women with stronger children during the 5th annual Relentless Powerlifting kick-off event. This event is a highlight for many HopeKids and their families including Ryan - an imaginative, 5-year-old leukemia warrior who loves Legos and dinosaurs. "Ryan had SO much fun at the Relentless kickoff event! The whole way home he kept saying, 'I'm a strong man too!' Everyone was so amazing with him and made him feel special. He's been telling everyone at the clinic that he played tug of war against Superman and Aquaman and he WON! Each one of these events helps our family create memories that we otherwise wouldn't be able to experience." – Kelly, Ryan's mom Thank you for restoring hope to Minnesota families, like Ryan's. Extended hospital stays and overwhelming medical bills can add stress to the family unit. Rebecca, Kellie’s mom, shares: “This organization has helped bring our family together. We spent so much of our lives apart and in hospitals. HopeKids has been a godsend for us. We could never afford to attend these events with our whole family and her PCA. She can hardly wait to see what we get to do next.” You can read more and view photos from our recent HopeDay events in our spring newsletter.
